Some Prayers Shouldn't Be Answered

The Lost Journal of Vice Marceaux is a 12 minute short film about a man who makes an amazing discovery that could potentially prove the soul exists. Desperate for anything concrete to give meaning to the suffering of a disease that took his family, Vice becomes obsessed. As his humanity drains away, he forgets about his family and becomes capable of a terrible crime.

We set out to develop The Lost Journal as a morality lesson akin to the ancient Greek Tragedies. Vice’s fallacy is akin to many of our own, to have proof before he can have faith. The thematic core of the film is not to answer the question “Does God Exist,” but to ask “Is Faith Enough”? Our intention is to provoke discussion along these lines.

Who Are We?

Each semester, the USC School of Cinematic Arts funds four graduate-level twelve minute short films. Currently, they are 16mm Color Sync-Sound films that, when finished, are screened on a film print and are mixed into a 5.1 surround mix. They are polished, very professional films.

The process of getting a film "green lit" is quite difficult, as competition in all the ares is fierce and everyone competing is very capable.

The Lost Journal Of Vice Marceaux is one of these films.
